AI Quick Quiz Generator for Formative Assessment
Mr. Davis is 20 minutes into a lesson on the water cycle when he realizes half the class is confused about the difference between condensation and precipitation. He needs to know how many students are confused and about what specifically before he continues.
OpenEduCat's AI Quick Quiz Generator builds formative checks for bell ringers, exit tickets, mid-lesson checks, and pre-assessments. You get questions to copy and use the way you already do.

How it works
From topic to a quiz you can copy, in three steps.
Enter a subject, a level and a topic
Choose the subject and the level, then type the topic ("photosynthesis," "the causes of World War I," "multiplying fractions," "figurative language in poetry").
Generate five questions
The template gives five questions, about ten minutes: multiple choice, true or false, and short answer. With Improve with AI on, your own AI key writes the questions on your topic.
Copy it or project it on screen
Copy the quiz into your own document, a Google Form or your LMS, or project it on the classroom screen and have students respond on whiteboards, hand signals, or paper.
Look at the answers
The tool does not collect or mark answers. You read them the way you already do. If only 40% of students correctly answered the question about mole-to-mole conversion, that concept needs review.
When to use each quiz format
Each format serves a distinct instructional purpose. The right format depends on when in the lesson you are assessing and what you want to find out.
MCQ
Multiple Choice, for concept checks
Best when you want a fast check on specific content. Looking at which question most students missed is more useful than an overall score.
T/F
True/False, for vocabulary and fact checks
Fast and low-cognitive-load for students. Good for checking whether students have misconceptions about specific statements. Works best for checking vocabulary, definitions, and basic factual claims, not complex reasoning.
SA
Short Answer, for reasoning and explanation
Ask students to explain a concept in 2 to 3 sentences. Reveals depth of understanding that MCQ cannot. You read and mark these yourself.
ET
Exit tickets, a separate tool, for reflection and planning
End-of-class reflective prompts. Tells you what students think they learned (may differ from what they actually learned), what confusion remains, and their confidence level. Informs the next lesson's opening.
What it can do
Built for the speed of formative assessment.
Three question formats
Multiple choice, true or false, and short answer. With Improve with AI on, your AI key writes the answer options and the plausible wrong answers.
A quick draft
The template fills in from your subject, level and topic as soon as you submit the form. If a class discussion reveals confusion about a concept, the teacher generates a quick check and asks the questions on the spot.
Post it in Google Classroom or a class group chat, or project it on the classroom screen.
Copy into Google Forms
Paste the questions into a Google Form if your students already use Google Classroom and prefer the familiar interface.
- No student accounts.
- No ads.
- Data-processing agreement on request.

Questions teachers ask
What is the difference between a quick quiz and a formal assessment?
A quick quiz is a low-stakes formative check: its purpose is to tell the teacher what students understand so they can adjust instruction. It typically counts for little or no grade weight. A formal assessment (unit test, midterm, final) measures how well students met the goals of a unit or course.
How good are the AI-generated multiple choice distractors?
With Improve with AI on, ask for wrong answers based on common misconceptions. For a question about photosynthesis, they might confuse chlorophyll with chloroplast. The template leaves the options for you to fill in.
Can students take the quiz on their phones?
No. The tool writes a quiz for you, and it has no student link or quiz screen. Students do not hold accounts. Show the quiz, print the downloaded text, or paste it into a form tool your class already uses.
How does the exit ticket format work?
This tool has no exit ticket format. It gives five questions: two multiple choice, one true or false, and two short answer. For an exit ticket, use the exit ticket generator on this site.
Can I use the quick quiz for bell ringers at the start of class?
Yes, bell ringers are one of the primary use cases. Generate a quiz the night before covering the previous lesson's key concepts. Students complete it in the first 3 to 5 minutes of class as a warm-up and review.
Does the quiz generator work for math?
Yes. Choose Mathematics and type the topic. With Improve with AI on, your AI key writes problems like "3/4 x 2/5 = ?" for "multiplying fractions".
